We Got the Hook Up

To recap what equipment we already have, I own a guitar amp and that is about it. So we needed something for Nick's guitar to play through, two mics to sing into, and something to power those mics. We had been hoping to use some connections in order to buy some used sound equipment, but with no last-minute word from those ends and with a couple performances only a week away, we decided to go buy the stuff from a store.

I drove to Guitar Center in Charlotte, which I learned was located at the furthest possible point away from me while still remaining in Charlotte limits (when driving back from the store, I had driven five minutes before I saw the skyline). Derek was the guy that offered me some tremendous help, and we quickly found an acoustic amp in our price range that had two inputs on it (that meant the guitar and the microphone could use this one system). At a pretty good price, I got the one for Nick and decided to get one for me too. This would keep me from having to purchase a soundboard and, with this new purchase, I can sell my old amp (which is more suitable for an electric guitar and only had one input) at a price likely higher than this new amp (it is a nice electric amp).

I bought a couple of nice mics, two boom stands, two mic cords, and one cord Nick needs, all for under $479. That may seem like a lot, but it's actually a very good deal for sound equipment. Plus, now that I can sell my old amp, the final cost will be closer to $300 or $350.

Last night, I tried out my half of the new equipment, and it sounds great! Also, Nick will be visiting me Sunday and Monday evenings to put in some final touches to the music. The Normies are ready to go!!!
(One final note to add in here - I've made contact with staff at our synod office and our story will be mentioned in upcoming synod emails and letters. Hopefully this will generate some communication with congregaitons interested in hosting an event)
