The BAC Performance

To start things off, Nick and I got together both Sunday night (the 12th) and Monday night in order to practice for the Belmont Abbey College performance, on Thursday (the 16th). I don't know how many hours we put into those practices, but between those two nights I got a total of around nine hours of sleep (but I made up for some of the sleep later through napping, I guess).

The performance went very well on Thursday. The students were celebrating the end of their Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week and all that they accomplished during that time. The students successfully raised $1,760 for various hunger and homeless organizations during the week, and I'm not sure if they even have a clue as to how many hours of volunteer work they put into it (a huge amount, I'm sure). So the focus certainly wasn't on us; we were there to sort of provide entertainment and background tunes.

Well, Nick and I are still learning how to quickly assess the crowd and then adjust our preconcieved songlist to suit the people. I made the mistake of getting started with an unknown and slower song (b/c I had thought we were probably opening after a prayer, but we didn't). But when the next song was Brown Eyed Girl, it certainly got people's attention.

All in all, we had a good time, and we appreciated everyone's complements. We had guessed before it got started that not everyone would stay until the end because it was a school night. But we kept playing for the clean up crew, and later serenaded a student with an improv You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling (a la Top Gun) when she was wrapped entirely with streamers and couldn't get away from us.

The college made a very generous donation to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal, and it was great just to be a part of their Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week.

We'll chime in again after the gig in Concord, tomorrow!
